Michele Bachmann hauled in $236,550 in the month before her fat-cat fundraiser with Sarah Palin April 7—80 percent of it from outside the 6th Congressional District she represents.
Bachmann’s out-of-district Minnesota contributions to the event totaled $155,500; another $33,000 came from outside Minnesota. In fact, Bachmann raked in more from the cities of Wayzata and Edina for this event prior to April 1—$67,000—than she did from the entire 6th CD—$47,250.
These numbers only represent the early money Bachmann took in before her big event at the Minneapolis Hilton, which is in the 5th Congressional District. Donations received after April 1 won’t be reported until mid-July.
Bachmann will supposedly split the take with the Minnesota GOP, which cosponsored the event.
Attendees of the Bachmann-Palin event could pay as “little” as $500 per person for the general reception and dinner; $5,000 for the general reception and a table for 10 for dinner; or $10,000 per couple for a private reception and table for 10 for dinner and have their picture taken with Bachmann and Palin. It’s not known whether Bachmann’s husband, Marcus, was also in the photos.
Bachmann has made a habit of holding celebrity fundraisers outside her district. In 2006, she held two events with then-President George Bush and then-Vice President Dick Cheney at posh Lake Minnetonka mansions—in the 3rd Congressional District.
Among some of Bachmann’s notable donors to her April 7 event with Palin were Pastor Mac Hammond of the Living Word Church, Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor, and PawnAmerica owner Brad Rixmann.
