Michele Bachmann Gets Mentioned in Frank Rich's column

Such violent imagery and invective, once largely confined to blogs and talk radio, is now spreading among Republicans in public office or aspiring to it. Last year Michele Bachmann, the redoubtable Tea Party hero and Minnesota congresswoman, set the pace by announcing that she wanted “people in Minnesota armed and dangerous” to oppose Obama administration climate change initiatives.

WE'RE ALL MAD HERE

I would be lying if I said that I have always been a fan of Alice in Wonderland. I know that as a child, I did enjoy it as much as I was completely terrified by it. Funnily enough, I share the same sort of complex emotions when it comes to my favorite director, Tim Burton. Even though I am frightened by blood, bones, and death, there is something alluring about his majestic creations. I can honestly say that 3 out of my top 5 favorite movies were created by Tim Burton. So it probably won't surprise you to hear that I am incredibly excited for his latest installment, a remake of Alice in Wonderland. I am sure that he has his skeptics, but since I am one of the only person who truly loved his Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I know that I am not one of them. Because of pre-sold tickets and the typical Burton scramble, I have a feeling that it is going to be hard to get into this movie for the first month. Therefore, in an attempt to hold you over, here are some fun little goodies to spark some imagination and make you curiouser and curiouser.

Michele Bachmann In Ethical Hot Water Again

Tennessean:

Maybe Michele Bachmann should steer clear of Nashville.

Several weeks ago, U.S. Rep. Bachmann pulled out of the Tea Party Convention, fearing that her appearance there would violate ethics rules.

On Friday, the head of a local nonprofit said she is canceling a planned fundraiser for Bachmann out of concerns the event would violate IRS rules. And even if the event is canceled, Bachmann's visit to Nashville may still land the charity in hot water with the IRS.

On Sunday, Bachmann will speak at a pro-Israel dinner run by Proclaiming Justice to the Nations, a Franklin-based nonprofit. Until Friday, she was also scheduled to appear at a private reception hosted by Laurie Cardoza-Moore, the charity's president.

The price of admission: a $500 donation to Bachmann's campaign.

In most cases, that would be perfectly legal.

As a private citizen, Cardoza-Moore can support any candidate she wants. But as the head of a nonprofit charity, she has to stay clear of politics. That's where the trouble comes in.

The e-mail invitation to the Bachmann fundraiser was addressed to Proclaiming Justice supporters. In the e-mail, supporters were asked to give $500 to Bachmann's re-election campaign.

"You're receiving this e-mail because of your relationship with Proclaiming Justice to the Nations Inc.," the header of the e-mail reads.

Nonprofit experts say the e-mail appears to violate IRS rules banning charities from politics.

"The IRS takes the position that sending a fundraising e-mail for a candidate or a candidate's campaign is considered intervention in a political campaign," said Marc Owens, former director of the exempt organizations division of the IRS.

Owens oversaw charities for 10 years at the IRS. He said he had seen other charities do what Proclaiming Justice has done. If the IRS were to find that Proclaiming Justice violated the law, the charity could be fined or lose its tax-exempt status, he said.

Hopefully the Minnesota media will call Michele Bachmann's office for comment on this one. This isn't the first time Michele Bachmann has had a non-profit send out a fundraising appeal for her campaign using the Non-Profit branding. Screen shots of the Edwatch fundraising appeal for Michele Bachmann are available here.

Tarryl Clark Campaign Goes After Michele Bachmann's Record and Travels

Here's the press release from the Clark campaign:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WITH MICHELE BACHMANN IN OHIO, CLARK CAMPAIGN LAUNCHES
“THE BACHMANN AGENDA”
New map, videos, and interactive tools track Minnesota’s missing Congresswoman and her agenda

St. Cloud, MN – Where is Michele Bachmann?

For the third time in just four weeks, Bachmann will not fly home to her district on Friday, but will instead land in Cincinnati, Ohio to deliver a speech to the Hamilton County Republican Party. Reports say Ohio GOP donors will pay between $70‐$90 each to hear from the Minnesota Congresswoman.

To mark the occasion of Bachmann’s trip to Ohio, Tarryl Clark’s campaign for Congress today launched a new portion of its website called ‘The Bachmann Agenda.’ Included in ‘The Bachmann Agenda’ are her record on recent issues including Social Security and Medicare, videos on Bachmann’s travels and agenda, and an interactive ‘Where in the World is Michele Bachmann?’ map, where you can follow her travels across the country, along with quotes, video and photos from her travels. They join Clark’s online ‘moneybomb’, an innovative online fundraising technique tied to Sarah Palin’s upcoming campaign visit for Bachmann. The moneybomb has already garnered more than 1,500 online pledges.

The Bachmann Agenda can be viewed at www.tarrylclark.com/bachmann‐agenda

“More often than not, the answer to the question ‘where is Michele Bachmann’ is: ‘not in her district,’” said Zach Rodvold, Campaign Manager for Tarryl Clark’s campaign for Congress. “It’s clear Congresswoman Bachmann’s priorities are chasing her national celebrity and pursuing her personal agenda – and those priorities come at the expense of her district. While she appears on countless national talk shows and conservative conventions, a local reporter stumps her by asking her to name just three things she’s done for her district. Her constituents deserve better.”

“It’s time for a representative who will do the job she was elected to do and put her constituents first,” continued Rodvold. “Tarryl Clark has a record of fighting for her constituents and delivering results.

When Congresswoman Bachmann refused, Tarryl stepped up to work on important initiatives – including Northstar and the Granite City Crossings Bridge – that help business, grow jobs, and invest in the people of this district. We need Tarryl Clark in Congress to do the job that our current 6th District Representative
is neglecting.”

Minnesota Independent: Reed/Clark Campaigns Highlight Michele Bachmann's Out of District Travels

Minnesota Independent:

Tarryl Clark, Maureen Reed

Clark, Reed

Democratic House candidates Dr. Maureen Reed and Sen. Tarryl Clark criticized U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann on Friday for her ambitious national speaking schedule. Both have created maps of Bachmann’s recent travels.

Reed’s map, called “Where’s Michele? Missing in Minnesota and Washington, D.C.,” tracks Bachmann’s national appearances, criticizes certain votes, and makes note of Bachmann high number of missed votes.

Reed’s communications director, Trevor Willett, said the campaign is “trying to spread, in a creative way, the message that Michele is not delivering for the people of the 6th CD, but also not doing the job in DC — missing 11% of votes this session.”

Clark’s map, titled “Where in the World is Michele Bachmann?,” which offers a comprehensive list of appearances around the country that Bachmann has made since Clark announced her campaign in 2009.

“It’s clear Congresswoman Bachmann’s priorities are chasing her national celebrity and pursuing her personal agenda – and those priorities come at the expense of her district,” Clark’s campaign manager, Zach Rodvold, said in a statement Friday. “While she appears on countless national talk shows and conservative conventions, a local reporter stumps her by asking her to name just three things she’s done for her district. Her constituents deserve better.”

That was a reference to a Feb. 14 interview with the St. Cloud Times’ Dave Aeikens in which the sophomore representative explained her lack of legislative success: “I am in the deep minority in Congress and a fairly new freshman, so I don’t have substantive bills that I have passed. I would love to.”

Maureen Reed Campaign Goes After Michele Bachmann

From the Reed Campaign:

Where's Michele? Bachmann has been Missing in Minnesota
Dear Eva

Yesterday, our campaign unveiled a new website:

www.WheresMichele.com

Our website highlights Bachmann’s trips across the country as she continues to raise her national profile, while ignoring the needs of her constituents in Minnesota. The website also underscores the congressional votes she’s missed on legislation affecting job creation, agriculture, consumer rights and transportation.

And tonight we have another example of where Bachmann’s priorities lie as she is in Ohio to address prominent Republicans, instead of traveling home to Minnesota to meet with her constituents.

In contrast, if you click on Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District, you will see all of the locations Maureen has been during her campaign; listening to people and hearing about the issues important to them. Maureen has enjoyed taking the time to meet face-to-face with delegates and citizens across the district.

Our goal in this campaign is to continually present the reasons that Michele Bachmann needs to be fired, and why Maureen Reed will be a great Congresswoman for the district. Spreading this message to voters in fun and innovative ways will continue to be a core objective throughout this race. And, if you forget the website address, don’t worry, as all of the “Where’s Michele or Where’s Michelle” websites will send you to our map.

Please check out the map and let us know what you think.

Sincerely,

Jason Isaacson

Campaign Manager

Multitasking

Women do multitask, we have established this fact. I can blog while i'm cooking, uploading pictures while ironing clothes, surfing the net while eating. The best way to pass the time while exercising is also to multitask- i'm running on a treadmill while watching my filipino movies. Being a mom also takes balance. Multitasking is a way of life and definitely a lifeline for all mothers.

"Literally, if we took away the minimum wage—if conceivably it was gone—we could potentially virtually wipe out unemployment completely because we would be able to offer jobs at whatever level." —Michele Bachmann, 1/26/05, Jobs, Energy and Community Development Committee, testifying against SF 3, a bill to raise the MN minimum wage and advocating the elimination of the minimum wage altogether..

"Many teenagers that come in should be paying the employer because of broken dishes or whatever occurs during that period of time. But you know what? After six months, that teenager is going to be a fabulous employee and is going to go on a trajectory where he's going to be making so much money, we'll be borrowing money from him." —Michele Bachmann, 1/26/05, explaining why teenagers should pay employers for the privilege of working instead of receiving minimum wage.

"If we allow businesses to be prosperous and accrue capital, they’ll be giving their employees more than they can even begin to imagine. But when we continue to tie cement blocks on businesses (like the minimum wage) and constrain them, they can actually do less than their employees."—Michele Bachmann, 1/26/05, testifying against SF 3, a bill to raise the MN minimum wage and explaining why it actually keeps wages and benefits lower.

"I was wondering, if most employers are already doing this anyway, isn’t minimum wage really just superfluous? Why do we even have one?" —Michele Bachmann, 1/26/05, Jobs, Energy and Community Development Committee, testifying against SF 3, a bill to raise the MN minimum wage, and advocating the elimination of the minimum wage altogether.

"If raising the minimum wage to $7.00 an hour is a good idea, that why dont we just raise it to $20.00 an hour, that must be even better." —Michele Bachmann, 1/26/05, Jobs, Energy and Community Development Committee, testifying against SF 3, a bill to raise the MN minimum wage.

"I look at the Scripture and I read it and I take it for what it is. I give more credence in the Scripture as being kind of a timeless word of God to mankind, and I take it for what it is. And I don't think I give as much credence to my own mind, because I see myself as being very limited and very flawed, and lacking in knowledge, and wisdom and understanding. So, I just take the Bible for what it is, I guess, and recognize that I am not a scientist, not trained to be a scientist. I'm not a deep thinker on all of this. I wish I was. I wish I was more knowledgeable, but I'm not a scientist." - Michele Bachmann interviewing with Todd Fiel at KKMS as quoted in the Stillwater Gazette, September 29, 2003.

"Something that I think sometimes people don’t like to hear is that secular people can be sometimes even more dogmatic in beliefs than people who are not secular. ... In some ways, to believe in evolution is almost like a following; a cult following — if you don’t believe in evolution, you’re considered completely backward. That seems to me very indicative of bias as well." - Michele Bachmann quoted in the Stillwater Gazette, September 29, 2003.

"No one that I know disagrees with natural selection — that you can take various breeds of dogs ... breed them, you get different kinds of dogs," she said. "It's just a fact of life. ... Where there's controversy is (at the question) 'Where do we say that a cell became a blade of grass, which became a starfish, which became a cat, which became a donkey, which became a human being?' There’s a real lack of evidence from change from actual species to a different type of species. That's where it's difficult to prove." - Michele Bachmann quoted in the Stillwater Gazette, September 29, 2003.

"On the morning of December 7, 1941, local St. Paulite Orville Ethier was aboard the USS Ward, a boat manned by 82 Navy reservists from St. Paul, when a small Japanese sub appeared near the entrance to Pearl Harbor. The Ward fired two shots, one of which struck and sank the sub, which constituted the first American shots of World War II. The commander of the Ward relayed a message about the incident back to military headquarters in Honolulu. The message stated "We have attacked, fired upon and dropped depth charges upon submarine operating in defensive sea area." The message, sent more than an hour before the 8 a.m. attack on Pearl Harbor, went unheeded.

You are a type of Orville Ethier - a patriot looking to secure American freedoms. The question is, will the Senators of Minnesota act like the Honolulu military headquarters and ignore your message? Today we face perhaps the greatest attack on the family in our lifetime. Now is OUR time to stand up and send a message to avert an equally impending disaster. Please visit www.mnmarriage.com to read my recent column on the threat that legalized gay marriage poses to our civil and religious liberties and, to tax exempt organizations in particular." - Michele Bachmann email to supporters.

"Iran is the troublemaker trying to tip over apple carts all over Baghdad right now because they want America to pull out. And you know why? It’s because they’ve already decided, that they’re going to territory, they’re- they’re going to partition Iraq and half of Iraq, the western northern portion of Iraq is going to be called, the United, uh, uh, the, the uh, -oh, I’m sorry, I can’t remember the actual name of it now, but it’s going to be called, um, uh, the, the, uh, uh the Iraq State of Islam, something like that. And I-I’m sorry, I-I don’t have the official name, but it is meant to be the training ground for the terrorists. There’s already an agreement made; they’re going to get half of Iraq and that is going to be a –a terrorist free,-a terrorist safe haven zone." - February 9, 2007, interview with Larry Schumacher, St Cloud Times. Michele Bachmann on Americorps:
Sure, under the guise of quote volunteerism, but it’s not volunteers at all, it’s paying people to do work on behalf of government. We had about 75,000 people involved in Americorps before – this adds another 250,000 people – so more government employees but what’s even more concerning about it is his focus is on young people – the original language of the bill was mandatory service for government. Right now the language is voluntary but just this last week a democrat colleague introduced the bill to make this mandatory. I believe when it’s all said and done this service that I believe there is a very strong chance that we will see that young people will be put into mandatory service and the real concern is that there are provisions for what I would call re-education camps for young people where young people have to go and get trained in a philosophy that the government puts forward and then they have to go and work in some of these politically correct forums. So that it is very concerning. It appears that there’s a philosophical agenda behind all of this and especially if young people are mandated to go into this. As a parent I would have a very very difficult time do this. Again this is a huge power grab and it’ll cost us us billions of dollars. - Sue Jeffers show, KTLK FM, 4/4/2009

We know those founders that wrote those documents (Declaration of Independence, Constitution) worked tirelessly until slavery was no more. - Speech to Iowans for Tax Relief, January 2011

Michele Bachmann: Nancy Pelosi Hates Me

More paranoid fantasies from Michele Bachmann. Minnesota Independent:

Rep. Michele Bachmann appeared on Michael Savage’s radio program on Monday to make her case that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is personally attacking her. Bachmann didn’t respond when asked whether she was interested in seeking higher office.

Savage asked, “Why does Nancy Pelosi hate about you?”

“I think the main thing she hates is that I take her on and President Obama and Harry Reid and their agenda,” Bachmann replied.

Savage said, “I would endorse a Bachmann-Romney ticket… would you be interested in a higher office?”

“You know, right now Nancy Pelosi has made me her number-one target to get rid of in the United States Congress,” she said. “She is raising money against me at a lightning clip. Every day the media hate machine is on my case daily in Minnesota in my state. She has recruited her candidate. This is extremely nasty and these people play for keeps.”

Michael Savage is the guy who refers to Third Word Nations as "Turd World Nations".

Minn Post has the story.

Kids Early Training

Parents should trained early their children on family responsibility and sharing workloads at home. The key is to start when they are young. They should be given some insights on the importance of helping out in the family and let them understand the concept that household chores should be shared. Let them have something to do that is just expected of them, in the same way that brushing their teeth and washing their hands are expected of them.

Kati, Joy's daughter already know her responsibility at home. She even cooked her own lunch today and help her mother by preparing ingredients for cooking. Being responsible for tasks and feeling that they're part of the family fosters self-esteem, and besides it prepare her for one of her role in the future.

The other day these images appeared on facebook. They are artist, Brenda Goodman's most recent paintings. She has posted them on her new
blog. These paintings are the gutsiest, most heart felt paintings I have seen in a long, long time.

She says,
"these are the influences that first come to mind."

Rembrandt
Soutine
Dekooning
Dubuffet
Vuilliard
Gorky
Ensor
Guston
Bacon
Terry Winters
Morandi

Hans Josephsohn

"Escape" oil on wood 52x56 2010

DB: A lot of people talk about Guston being important for their work, especially people of my generation, but you had an actual relationship with him.

BG: He really liked my work and we exchanged a few letters. But the thing about Guston, as with de Kooning, and as with Gorky, Soutine, and Dubuffet, which were the big ones in my life––then Morandi later on––you have a connection to them. You’re on the same wavelength, or whatever you want to call it. You have this affinity with certain artists and there’s a reason why you’re influenced by them, because there’s something of them already inside you.
