Happy Halloween

Halloween is an annual holiday celebrated on October 31 in which the colours black and orange have become associated with the celebrations, perhaps because of the darkness of night and the colour of fire or of pumpkins.

Even in the city shopping center, there's a statue ghost trying to scare the kids. There will be lots of halloween costume parties tonight and there will be trick and treats for the kids.

It is a custom for children on Halloween. Children proceed in costume from house to house, asking for treats such as confectionery, or sometimes money, with the question, “Trick or treat?” The “trick” is an idle threat to perform mischief on the homeowners or their property if no treat is given. This is normally an empty threat, because it is rare that any such trick is ever played (source-wikipedia)

ECM Profile of Michele Bachmann

Check it out here.

DFL spin on Bachmann

Asked if 6th District DFLers were uneasy about Bachmann’s national attention, District Chairwoman Nancy Schumacher offered a quick reply.

“If by uneasy you mean are we embarrassed by the national attention, the answer is ‘Yes,’” she said in e-mail.

“In my state-wide travels, I can’t begin to tell you how many times people have said, you live in the 6th CD? What is wrong with you electing that woman?” Schumacher wrote.

Bachmann’s “rants” generate campaign contributions for Democrats, Schumacher wrote.

As for the Bachmann action figure and conservative women’s calendar, that belongs in the entertainment business, not the business of running state and country, said Schumacher.

Tarryl Clark Sends Out Hard Hitting Pitch Going After Charlatan Michele Bachmann

Nineteen months ago, experts scouring the state inspecting bridges for safety flaws shut down Saint Cloud’s De Soto/Highway 23 bridge until further notice.

We were told it would be seven years before they could reconstruct it. Congresswoman Bachmann did nothing to help us. But in the State Capitol, we stepped up and found the resources within our newly-passed transportation funds to replace this bridge so vital to our community and get traffic moving again.

Yesterday, we held a celebration of the opening of the new bridge, the “Granite City Crossing.”

Gathered there were the partners who made it possible – my State colleagues who helped find the funding within our newly-passed transportation funds; the construction workers who labored every day on the bridge; the local businesses who are hoping the traffic flowing once again past their stores will bring more customers.

And Michele Bachmann.

Who showed up to “cut the ribbon,” after doing nothing to secure any funding for this critically important transportation investment.

In fact, whenever Central Minnesota has needed investments to grow our communities and businesses – from the Northstar Corridor to workforce development – Congresswoman Bachmann hasn’t lifted a finger.

Congresswoman Bachmann would rather deliver the rhetoric than deliver the results.

Ribbon cuttings get Congresswoman Bachmann more face time on television. But I know that some things are more important than being on TV - like working with your colleagues to get the job done for Minnesotans. That's why I need your help today.

As a State Senator, I’ve fought tirelessly for my community, from increasing opportunities at Saint Cloud State University to expanding our regional airport. I’ve worked across party lines to listen to communities and local leaders and ensure we deliver on the investments they need.

As your Representative in Congress, I’ll be there long before the ribbon is cut.

Sincerely,

Tarryl Clark

I'm glad Clark pointed out Bachmann's self-serving hypocrisy on this one.

The New Passageway

It's very foggy last sunday. It also rained that day and its so serene when you look around. I grabbed my camera and take shots of the mountain hidden by fog.

While waiting for the gas station to open, i took photo of the new passageway leading to Offenburg train station. They constructed a new and secured one though the other "tunnel" on the opposite side is still passable for train passengers. But its more dangerous to walk alone in the old passageway, there are reported crimes that happened to people while walking alone because there's no hidden camera and there's no security manning the area.

More Concentrated Crazy from Michele Bachmann's Fellow Traveller: Bradlee Dean

He's talking about Hate Crimes legislation and the "homos".

Lunch with Friends (again!!!)

Today, we have a sumptuous lunch at Elena's place. She cooked Dinuguan, her own version with Kohlrabi and paprika, adobo, and fried chicken. My commenters in my main blog noticed that we like to meet and eat. Pinoys here really love to eat and we really have a good appetite when we're eating and talking together. Our dessert is of course my leche plan and elena's tiramisu cream.

Dinuguan and Fried Chicken

My friends, oh! look at Agnes, caught in the act of eating while we're posing for the camera

Elena and her daughter Vanessa, how time flies very fast, i still remember pushing her stroller when she's still a baby, look at her now, she acts and dress like a lady.

Elena and Vanessa's new toy is the balance board where you can do some sports, yoga, aerobics, etc.

City Shopping

Yesterday, i did drive to the city to buy some girls stuff. It's saturday so there are many weekend shoppers taking advantage of the sale at H&M store, Pimkie, etc. I am not anymore lured to shop on these stores because i have more than enough junks already.

While walking along the coffee shops, i saw Annalyn, wearing blue pullover and boots. She is known here for her fancy kind of dressing, sometimes wearing all red, pink, silver, yellow, gold, polka dot, tiger-look, barbie, spaceship girl, black & white and other colors from head to foot.

George Will Drinks the Michele Bachmann Koolaid

George Will's recent column on Michele Bachmann repeats a cute story about how Bachmann was drafted to run for state senate on the spot in her jeans and sweatshirt, but unfortunately, it's just that--a story. Or, as Gary Laidig, the Republican that Bachmann opposed at the convention says, it's "absolute bullshit."

Will should research his subject before writing such a glowing column about her. He clearly does not know the full story on this charlatan.

From Will's column:

Looking toward 2012, she is not drawn merely to Sarah Palin or other darlings of social conservatives. She certainly is one of those, but she knows that economic hardship and government elephantiasis now trump other issues.

John Hinderaker from Powerline echoes this sentiment about Michele Bachmann:

Michele, like us, is a former liberal who saw the light. Democrats try to typecast her as a social conservative, but her overarching theme has always been freedom. A former tax litigator, she is as shrewd a critic of the Left's would-be takeover of the economy as we have in the conservative movement.

This suggests that Michele Bachmann's reputation as a theocrat is a liability, rather than an asset. It is laughable that Bachmann is more serious about economic issues than her concern with issues such as abortion and the evil homos. Michele Bachmann after all bragged about shutting down a legislative session over her anti-gay marriage amendment.

To my dear friends:

Today, May 17, 2004, is a momentous day of change for America, but our God is mightier still.

Thank you for calling upon your listeners to come to the Capitol to pray for the final session countdown. We adjourned at 7 a.m. on Sunday in a thunder of confusion and it was all over the issue of letting the people vote on marriage.

The number one story for the end of session was the praying people, their clear pro-family witness for Christ, and their strength of numbers. Over a 24-hour period from Saturday through Sunday, there must have been 500 people at the Capitol. The peoples presence charged the entire dynamic for end of session. Bills were deliberately not taken up because of the marriage issue.

Pro-family people were everywhere faithfully persevering in prayer.

We tried for 21 hours to get the marriage bill on the Senate floor for debate and a vote, but were prevented from achieving that goal. The Senate refused to recognize me when I stood requesting to speak on any bill. Other Senators tried to speak and tried to yield their time to me so I could speak, but the Senate President ignored me and continued to pound his gavel at the desk.

Members from the House huddled around TV sets to watch the Senate proceedings and were stunned that the Senate would purposely and repeatedly ignore a sitting member who repeated requested to speak.

In the end, the Senate Majority Leader moved for final adjournment and ran out the side door of the chamber to avoid meeting the faithful prayer warriors out by the front doors. Once again, I spoke into my microphone, but the majority leaders left the Senate chamber, and the session was over with a thud.

Afterwards, the faithful gathered their signs, we hugged, and they applauded the group of Senators who voted for man/woman marriage. It was 7:30 a.m., Sunday morning, and we had lost the battle, but encouraged one another that our God would be victorious in the end.

Today, we're having a press conference to tell the people of Minnesota to keep praying. Because, as of today, homosexual marriage is legal in Massachusetts and that imposes a real threat to Minnesotas definition of marriage and to our civil and religious liberties.

Sincerely,

State Senator Michele Bachmann

Why Is Michele Bachmann's Anti-Gay Pal Bradlee Dean Using Music by Aaron Copland to Promote His Show?

Yup, that's Aaron Copeland's "Fanfare for the Common Man" playing in the background.

From the Independent Gay Forum:

Copland has a particular interest for us beyond the merits of his music because he was gay.

Copland's homosexuality was quietly known but little advertised during his lifetime. It has now been elaborately documented, however, in Howard Pollack's recent biography, "Aaron Copland: The Life and Work of an Uncommon Man."
"Copland apparently accepted his homosexuality with equanimity. But is the homosexuality in the music itself? "

Despite being born in less tolerant times, after a brief late adolescent period of discomfort Copland apparently accepted his homosexuality with equanimity.

MN Indy Follows Up on Michele Bachmann's Fellow Traveller: Anti-Gay Bradlee Dean

Here.

“He’s un-American!” Bradlee Dean’s opinion of President Barack Obama — broadcast on his radio show “The Schools of Hard Knocks Roxx” on Apr. 4 — may echo that of fellow Minnesotan, Rep. Michele Bachmann, who in October 2008 told MSNBC’s Chris Matthews she’d like to see an investigation into whether Obama and members of Congress hold “anti-American” views.

But he takes his views where she wouldn’t. Bachmann backed off her statement, saying she was misunderstood and railroaded by Matthews, but Dean recently went on to say Obama is “not American. He’s unpatriotic to the max. Folks, he doesn’t have the spirit of a president.”

Yet, Bachmann still stands behind Dean, who runs an Annandale-based Christian ministry that brings an evangelical message into churches, prisons, and public schools. Next month, she’s headlining a fundraiser for that ministry, called You Can Run But You Cannot Hide (YCRBYCH), in Bloomington on Nov. 12. YCRBYCH says they will use the funds raised to reach others with their ministry — often public school students.

Following a Minnesota Independent report earlier this month that featured sources who question the constitutionality of the group’s taxpayer-funded assemblies at public schools, YCRBYCH scrubbed its podcasts and audio archives from iTunes and the several websites it maintains. But the Minnesota Independent has obtained several of the group’s audio offerings, which give an overview of the opinions Bachmann is endorsing by headlining the fundraiser.

Money Pours Into the 6th District for Michele Bachmann, Tarryl Clark and Maureen Reed

Stillwater Gazette has the story.

Three candidates for Minnesota's 6th District congressional seat raised nearly one million dollars in campaign contributions during the third quarter.

Maureen Reed, a Grant resident who is seeking the DFL endorsement, announced that she raised more than $130,000 in the third quarter, for a total of $360,000 raised to date, and has over $300,000 on hand.

"Maureen demonstrates the fundraising strength necessary to defeat Michele Bachmann," Jason Isaacson, campaign manager for Reed's congressional campaign, said in a press release. "Maureen now sits with over $300,000 cash on hand, all of which was raised without relying on endorsements from prominent individuals or special interests. This outpouring of support shows that our message of creating jobs, fixing healthcare, and reducing the national debt is resonating with people. And to do this the old fashioned way, one-on-one talking to donors, is truly humbling and gratifying."

Nearly 100 percent of Reed's fundraising comes from individuals, according to her campaign, with 93 percent of all donations coming from within Minnesota. The campaign was to file its official results with the Federal Election Commission by Oct. 15.

Meanwhile, St. Cloud state Sen. Tarryl Clark raised $308,015 in just nine weeks.

Clark, who entered the race mid-quarter on July 28, is one of only a few challengers nationwide to raise more than $300,000 in a single quarter, according to her campaign.

Clark's 2,412 donors contributed an average of $107. The campaign finished the quarter with just under $270,000 in the bank.

"I think our strong start is a testament to the desire for change across the district," Clark said in press release. "Minnesota's families want a representative who is more interested in getting things done than in generating national headlines. They're working hard every day, and I'm going to work every day for them."

Clark has already earned more than a dozen endorsements in her campaign for Congress, including the Minnesota AFL-CIO, Minnesota Nurses Association, SEIU, AFSCME, and the Saint Cloud State College Democrats.

Bachmann, the incumbent, raised $345,000 in the third quarter. She beat out Clark and Reed in third quarter campaign contributions. She has more than $600,000 in the bank and has spent $118,000.

Also, Bachmann raised more than $100,000 in a single-day fundraising blitz during that time.

The 6th Congressional District includes Stillwater and wraps around the Twin Cities north and west to St. Cloud.

The Pumpkin

When summer is over, autumn fills the air and the landscape changes colors. It is also a great time to change up your home decor for the new season. Bringing this magic inside a home, autumn decorating is a lot of fun and natures offers plenty to work with. One creative but underused decorating item is the pumpkin which you can use as vase and table displays.

Pink for October

The Pink for October campaign is about blog and website owners showing their support for breast cancer awareness by turning our sites pink for the month of October.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer.
As well as providing a platform for breast cancer charities to raise awareness of their work and of the disease, BCAM is also a prime opportunity to remind women to be breast aware for earlier detection.

Even here in Germany, some store like Müller are also supporting the campaign by information posters and giving out pink ribbon to women customers. I would say that i proudly displayed my pink ribbon as show of support.
