A SINGLE MAN

THIS PAST SUNDAY I WAS ONE OF THE LUCKY FEW TO HAVE SEEN A SINGLE MAN, TOM FORD'S DIRECTORIAL DEBUT. I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT AT FIRST I WAS A BIT NERVOUS, BEING A HUGE FAN OF HIS WORK, BUT LUCKILY I WAS ANYTHING BUT DISAPPOINTED. I HONESTLY DON'T KNOW WHY I DOUBTED THE MAN. I MEAN, HAS HE EVER FAILED AT ANYTHING? THE MAN HAS ADVERTISED HIS OWN PERFUME BOTTLE BY PLACING IT INBETWEEN SOMEONE'S BUTT CHEEKS AND THE PERFUME CAN'T STAY ON THE SHELVES!

FROM THE CINEMATOGRAPHY, TO THE COSTUMING AND SET DECORATION, THIS MOVIE HAS TOM FORD WRITTEN ALL OVER IT. WHETHER IT'S THE WARM WOOD IN GEORGE'S (COLIN FIRTH) HOME OR THE BLACK AND WHITE DECO GOWN THAT CHARLEY (JULIANNE MOORE) CARELESSLY LOUNGES AROUND IN, THE ESSENCE OF FORD IS EVERYWHERE. BUT DON'T GET ME WRONG, THIS MOVIE IS NOT JUST FOR FORD FREAKS. COLIN FIRTH GIVES AN OSCAR WORTHY PERFORMANCE THAT TAKES HIM FROM BUMBLING BRIT IN A ROMCOM TO OUTSTANDING BREAKTHROUGH ACTOR IN A (VERY SERIOUS) DRAMA. JULIANNE MOORE LIGHTS UP THE SCREEN AS GEORGE'S BEST FRIEND AND NICHOLAS HOULT (THE BOY FROM ABOUT A BOY) GIVES A VERY GROWN UP AND IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCE AS GEORGE'S STUDENT.

HAVING THE PLEASURE OF WATCHING THE MOVIE WOULD HAVE BEEN ENOUGH, BUT WHEN I SAW MYSELF WITHIN ARMS LENGTH OF MR. FORD HIMSELF, I HAD TO REACH OUT AND GIVE A LITTLE POKE. A FEW MOMENTS LATER I WAS BEING HELD BY THE CLEANEST SMELLING MAN ON EARTH AND THEN I GAVE MY OWN OSCAR WINNING PERFORMANCE BY PRETENDING LIKE I WASN'T GOING TO DIE.

A SINGLE MAN OPENS DECEMBER 11 IN NEW YORK, LOS ANGELES AND SAN FRANCISCO AND WILL EXPAND TO MORE THEATERS CHRISTMAS DAY.
