In assessing her second term as the representative for Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District, Michele Bachmann cites an expansion of her presence on Facebook and Twitter among her major accomplishments.
While that says little about her legislative prowess, it speaks volumes about the importance Bachmann places on social media. And for someone contemplating a run at the presidency, that kind of popularity could be a key factor in the decision.
... and the article goes downhill from there. No mention of Bachmann's controversial "armed and dangerous' statement that was recently condemned by NY Times columnist Paul Krugman.
One of the so-called "accomplishments" Bivens mentions is "Her resolution to designate September as National Hydrocephalus Awareness Month ", but what he failed to report is that Bachmann voted against funding for hydrocephalus research:
Rep. Michele Bachmann has gotten a lot of mileage out of her symbolic congressional legislation to designate September "National Hydrocephalus Awareness Month." However, her enthusiasm seems to stall when it comes to funding research for a cure for this brain disease. The 6th District Minnesota congresswoman has voted against federal research funds for hydrocephalus at every opportunity since she was elected in 2006....
.... Bachmann has voted against every HHS appropriations bill since 2007. She cast "no" votes on final passage of HHS appropriations for FY2007, FY2008, FY2009 and, on July 24, for FY2010.
Also Larry Bivens states the following as fact:
As a tax attorney, Bachman views herself as a protector of taxpayer dollars.
Last we heard, Bachmann is not authorized to practice law in Minnesota.
Perhaps Larry Bivens can follow up this article with an article that fact-checks Bachmann's claims.
