Living Word Christian Center in Brooklyn Park, home to the high-flying Pastor James “Mac” Hammond, is broke, reports City Pages. But Pastor Mac and his wife, Lynne, still managed to squeak by and donate $6,000 to Michele Bachmann’s campaign so far in this election cycle—most recently $2,000 from Pastor Mac on August 9.
Living Word’s Brooklyn Park property was recently sold to TCF Bank at a sheriff’s foreclosure sale for $5.1 million, according to City Pages. The property last sold in 1995 for $3.5 million.
Hammond’s money troubles began in 2008, when he claimed to have put his private jet up for sale and cut Living Word’s Sunday morning show from an hour to a half-hour to save money. However, it appears Hammond couldn’t part with his beloved Cessna Citation 500 jet after all. Living Word still owns it, according to the aircraft registry.
Living Word sued recently to avoid repaying $2.2 million it received in donations from Andover Ponzi man Gerard Cellette. The court-appointed receiver for the victims of Cellette’s $53 million Ponzi scheme has sued Living Word in an attempt to “claw back” the ill-gotten donations.
It’s not known whether the receiver will attempt to claw back the $750 Cellette gave to Governor Tim Pawlenty in 2006 or the $2,000 he gave to the Republican National Committee in 2008 and 2009.
