Pioneer Press Claims Michele Bachmann the Only MN Rep to Hold Open Town Hall Meeting

In the east metro area, Rep. Michele Bachmann is the only member of Congress who has scheduled a town hall meeting during the August congressional recess. The Stillwater Republican's forum, which is open to the public, will be at 2:45 p.m. Thursday at Oak-Land Junior High School in Lake Elmo.

Asked why Bachmann is risking a contentious meeting, spokesman Dave Dziok replied, "She feels it's incumbent upon her to hear the views of her constituents, and there's probably no more important issue facing the nation right now than health care."

But most of her colleagues from this area have abandoned town halls, a longtime tradition for lawmakers hoping to reach out to voters and hear their views.
